Ecological carrying capacity in mariculture: Consideration and application in geographic strategies and policy

Governance and management strategies for aquaculture development were examined a select number of jurisdictions covering range marine production to better understand the degree which concepts “Ecological Carrying Capacity” (ECC) are incorporated into tools or permitting requirements development. Policies, regulations, strategic plans sought through professional knowledge and, at times, using web-based searches. Aquaculture ECC, defined here as, “the magnitude that can be supported without leading unacceptable changes in ecological process, species, populations, communities environment,” was not strictly applied any jurisdiction’s policy documentation. A broadened search consider concept carrying capacity (CC) more generally conducted. Of ten nations examined, CC could found documentation several nations. The inclusion planning used as part suite promote sustainable within FAO’s Ecological Approach Aquaculture.
